CASHMERE FIBRE

CASHMERE ORIGIN

Cashmere fibre comes from the "Hircus Falconer", a particular type of goat that inhabits the Asian Plateau where cold temperatures (as low as -50°C in Mongolia) alternate with hot, dry summers. In order to survive this climate, this breed of goats has developed a double fleece: the inner layer is soft and fine while the outer layer is rough and coarse. The soft down of the inner fleece is thick and matted and provides effective protection against the cold temperatures. The severity of the winter temperatures will determine the average fineness of the cashmere fibres for the following clip: the colder the temperature the finer the fibre will be.

In order to appreciate how valuable and precious cashmere fibre is, it is enough to consider that every goat can yield 150 grammes  per annual clip. It is even more precious when we consider how much care this extraordinary fibre requires at every step of processing in order to maintain its structural characteristics.
